Drama winner Game of Thrones sets new record with 12 Emmy wins as emotional Peter Dinklage picks up second Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor

Game of Thrones has broken the record for most Emmy wins in one year as a shocked Peter Dinklage accepted his second award for Outstanding Supporting Actor. 
The hit HBO show won 12 Emmys including for outstanding supporting actor, writer and director and drama series at the 67th Emmy Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday. 
And a stunned Peter Dinklage won his second Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of cunning Tyrion Lannister on the hit HBO fantasy drama.

Dinkalge previously won the Emmy for his role as scheming Tyrion Lannister in 2011.
And despite that previous win, the actor appeared to be shocked to pick up a second Emmy, clutching his forehead in amazement as he approached the mic. 
The gracious actor thanked the show's writers.

And he also thanked Game of Thrones novellist George R.R. Martin, who celebrated his 67th birthday on Sunday.
The show's writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss also won for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

Also picking up Emmys were director David Nutter, who won for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. Nutter won for directing the season five finale, called Mother's Milk. 
Nutter previously won a directing Emmy in 2002 for Band of Brothers, and has been nominated five times.
The cult show beat out Mad Men, Better Call Saul, Downton Abbey, Homeland, House Of Cards and Orange Is The New Black to win Best Drama.

And British actresses Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey were also both nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress, but were beaten by Orange Is The New Black star Uzo Aduba.
The show also won eight Creative Emmy awards last week.
The previous record holder was drama The West Wing, which picked up nine Emmys in 2000.
