A 37-year-old, Seyi Akinmulayo, on Tuesday appeared before the
Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja for raping his 15 year old step-daughter.
Police prosecutor, Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, told the court that the
offence was committed in February at the accused’s residence, 22,
Omorale Johnson St., Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
Iseghede alleged that Akinmulayo raped the girl, who cannot be named
for legal reasons, then told her not to tell anybody. However, the girl
later told her mother, and Akinmulayo ran away.
Akinmulayo pleaded not guilty, and the Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen
Elias, set bail at N2 million in addition to two sureties in like sum.
Elias also ordered Akinmulayo to pay N200,000 into the court’s
registrar’s account as part of the bail condition. The case was
adjourned to Sept. 9 for mention.
